This week’s blog is going to be a little different then the last few, it is about acts of kindness. Acts of kindness are part of our inner souls and are things we do daily for others. In the following paragraph is a small act of kindness that I did and at the time did not even realize the path it would lead someone to follow.
Recently a good friend of mines daughter asked me to lunch. I see her mother often but have not spent a lot time with the daughter Jess (not her real name). Off we went to lunch a week ago, Jess is such a beautiful soul both inside and out, totally her mother’s daughter. As we talked Jess thanked me for always being such a good friend to her mom, especially now as her mom is going through some tough stuff. I let her know she does not have to thank me her mom is like a sister to me. Then Jess went into asking me if I remembered giving her a little book of quotes many years ago called “The Road to Success”. I told her I do remember giving that to her when she was home for a visit from California and had mentioned she loved her career out there but it was becoming less of what she wanted to do. In the front of the book she said I wrote, “Do not let your head get in the way of your heart, because if you follow your heart you will follow your passion”. She said that stuck in her head forever and one day she decided she was done in California and came home to Eau Claire. She ended up marrying her high school sweet heart, working on a national magazine as a freelance designer, made some jewelry that she sold locally, and has had two handsome little boys, the oldest one being 4. In the last 3 years she decided to follow her passion and do her jewelry full time. She now has her own studio, sells locally, and is in some national chain stores. Needless to say, following her passion and having a good business mind has totally made her a success. She told me if this phrase, “Do not let your head get in the way of your heart, because if you follow your heart you will follow your passion” was not buried in her subconscious for so many years, she really does not think she would be where she is in her life. All I could think is, “wow, one little act of kindness, one little phrase, put her on a path to grow into her.”
As we ended our lunch she handed be an item wrapped in tissue paper and said open it when you have a moment alone. Of course, I couldn’t wait and opened it when I got in my vehicle. It is the book you see in the cover photo. Her mom had mentioned to Jess that I love to motivate and inspire everyone to be their best self in all areas of their lives, with one really big future goal that scares me a lot. Jess thoughtfully wrote in the cover, “In order to reach your full potential, get out of your comfort zone and into your fear”. Jess is so right, and little does she know her one little act of kindness by planting those words in my subconscious will give me a push every day. Always know from opening a door, giving a compliment, planting some amazing words in someone’s subconscious, giving someone your smile, etc., there are no acts of kindness too small and you never know what they can lead to in someone’s life. After all I am a strong believer we are all a work in progress in our lives and small acts of kindness never go unnoticed by the universe.
Life is a Journey my Friends, make it what you want it to be!
