We all have had the “No Fear” phase in our lives. Being a mother of a twelve-year-old named Jake, I see it in everything he does, such as going fast with anything he drives, jumps off high places, swings from tress, makes decisions on a whim, and so much more. Whenever he comes up with a big idea I always say, “you never know buddy the skis the limit and the world is your playground”. As I want him to be safe and make good choices that will lead him to a successful future, wherever that may take him. I also do not want him to always make the safe choices that limit him from following his greatness that will fill his inner soul with so much love and joy.
As we get older and realize we are not invincible – physically or otherwise – we get out of the “No Fear” phase, which puts us in our comfort zone. Our fears keep us in our comfort zones as far as career/jobs we take, the relationships we have, and even the opportunities that cross our paths that we do not take. Our comfort zones do not allow us to grow and pursue what our inner souls want us to do. The problem with not facing our fears is we do not allow room for all the amazing careers, relationships and opportunities that come our way. There is someone that has caught your eye, but you think they are out of my league and would never go out with me. There is a position that would advance your career/job, but you think there is someone more qualified and better suited for the position. I am telling you right now, “that is your fear talking”. Take the chance, talk to the other party that caught your eye, ask for the position that will advance your career. You may be pleasantly surprised to find out that the other party has been wanting to talk to you and someone was thinking you would be a perfect fit for the new position, but on both accounts, you were not showing an interest. You were not allowing that SPACE in your life to be open.
Fear is an obstacle we can overcome, and it is completely freeing. Getting by these obstacles gives us more options and allows us to transform into the person we want to become. By identifying our thoughts that bring us fear we can gain perspective on what drives us and open that space for amazing careers/jobs we take, the relationships we have, and even the opportunities that cross our paths that the universe is telling us to take. After all I am a strong believer we are all a work in progress in our lives and when we can overcome our fears, “the skis the limit and the world is your playground”.
